Houdini in-class exercises & self-taught practice
With two days of Houdini classes, there are four exercises as follows.
The first class is about creating a landscape.
On the second day, the lecturer led us to make a mycelium, a rain and a grass using vellum.

Although these two days of classes were very informative, I think it’s not enough and quite rough for a student to better master Houdini with essential techniques.
So I learnt from online resources and did more practice than just the exercises in class.
What I regard as Houdini’s advantages are mainly its dynamic function, which makes fluid, fire, smoke, volume, cloth, soft objects, explosion and rigid body dynamics more efficient and powerful.
So I think it’s important to understand such a system and framework within Houdini, which is not thoroughly taught and explained in class.

Learnt from the basic but necessary part, practising from basic modelling, coloring, adding camera and lighting to rendering. Also did basic animation.

Another thing that most teachers and lecturers do not introduce and explain is the primitives, points and vertex in Houdini. This component of the subject is, however, of critical relevance to the comprehension of the mechanisms by which colour is controlled.
