Nuke Task – London City “War”

The aim of this task is to transform footage of London into a war-like scene that looks realistic.

The assignment involved great effort in mixing the unmatched special effects footage of smoke, fire and other elements into the London city footage.

I was not interested in war-themed scenarios. However, I tried to combine these clips in a way that would direct the audience’s gaze towards the centre of the video, creating a triangular layout with the imperfect footage.

In Nuke, I used 3D scene setups, roto and 3D projection to complete the compositing work. This task gave me the opportunity not only to master smoke, fire and reflection techniques, but also to hone my attention to detail and my ability to capture realistic movement. Although the animation of the fire and smoke was imperfect due to computer lag and Nuke errors, I believe this experience helped me to remember the difficulties that a junior compositor in Nuke would have encountered.

I also designed the lower third with Figma and animated it in Nuke.
