Nuke Balloon Festival Project

Moodboard

I took the reference for the reflection of the bubbles and the fairytale light from the first three pictures.

In the second row, the front light in the left picture is what I want to give depth to my video with the skulls in the front position. I also used the star and sky reference from the right image in the second row.

In the third row are the ghost and the balloons, I later created my own version of the story and the ghost.

Working Process

  1. Separated layers in the original footage for colour grading and adding objects later.

Used tracking and roto to separate the view into four layers: grasses, the front hill, the hill in the middle, and the two hills in the back separately and the sky.

2.Set up the 3D view by tracking with 3DEqualizer and Blender

Modelled the skulls, ghosts, ballons, pumpkins, and clouds in Blender

Created the clouds using quick smoke.

The smoked skull in the right corner was created by importing a skull for the fluid to be generated according to the shape of the skull.

Skull balloons were created and animated to pop up

Two skeleton troops were rigged and animated to walk along the paths

The skulls hanging in the front place on the grass were adding transparent texture and lighting to make it more unreal.

Used random colours to texture the skulls and balloons. Set the main one with purple.

Adjusted the texture of the skulls to make it more like a ghost and gas.

Did a little bit of compositing in Blender before rendering EXR sequences.

3. Compositing 3 sequences in Nuke, including the ballon behind the front hill, the main animation in the centre and the three skulls in the front position.

All layers were adjusted with grading and roto process.
